MGM Springfield and PVTA unveil 'The Loop' transportation service

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) -  Springfield's newest public transportation service connecting several downtown attractions was unveiled Monday.

Congressman Richard Neal and Mayor Domenic Sarno joined representatives from MGM Springfield and PVTA at Union Station to announce The Loop's schedule and outline its service and stops.

"We have a very walkable downtown and to be able to take advantage of all the key amenities is key," Sarno said. "We want to spread the wealth."

The Loop is a free electric bus service developed by MGM Springfield and the PVTA. lt is scheduled to begin on August 24 for MGM Springfield's opening day.

Neal is impressed that nothing has been left to chance.

"I think everybody should be impressed with the efficiency with which all have been met," Neal said.

The Loop will run Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., starting at Springfield's Union Station.

The service is expected to complete a full circuit in 60 minutes during the day and 40 minutes in the evening, including the following stops:

  • MGM Springfield
  • Springfield Armory
  • Springfield Museums
  • Basketball Hall of Fame
  • MassMutual Center
  • Holiday Inn Express
  • The Sheraton
  • Hampton Inn
  • La Quinta
