SPRINGFIELD, MA — Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after President Trump signed H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, into law:
“Now that this lifesaving legislation is law, millions of American families will be able to access vital services and resources that will help them weather the coronavirus crisis. The Ways and Means Committee contributed key provisions to this bipartisan bill, including historic, emergency paid leave, the stabilization of our unemployment insurance system, and free coronavirus testing, even for the uninsured. We know that our work does not stop here and that the American people urgently need more help. I plan to craft additional legislation to:
get money in the pockets of workers and families who need it;
continue to expand paid leave and unemployment insurance eligibility;
support small businesses that are struggling;
lower coronavirus-related health care costs for patients; and
help hospitals and other health care providers afford and access the supplies they need to treat the influx of coronavirus patients.
“Democrats are committed to delivering relief for the workers, families, and businesses that are feeling the pain of this terrible national emergency.”
