Springfield, MA – Congressman Richard E. Neal, Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means released the following statement after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. “It is not enough for public officials to simply acknowledge the lives that have been lost to excessive police force, most recently in the case of an unarmed George Floyd of Minneapolis, Minnesota. We must acknowledge the root cause of many of these actions. On the Ways and Means Committee, we discussed the racial disparities in health care in the tax code this week in an unprecedented virtual hearing. They exist. But they also exist in areas of everyday life for so many members of our American Family. The federal government has the responsibility to hold those accountable in all areas where these injustices occur. That’s why I’m joining those calling for the U.S. Department of Justice to open an investigation into the tragic death of George Floyd,” said Chairman Neal. ## |
