SPRINGFIELD, MA – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the conclusion of a phone meeting between the full Committee and U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin: “Today, we had an opportunity to get answers from Secretary Mnuchin regarding the implementation of recent COVID-19 legislation and share our priorities for future measures to address the crisis. In response to Democrats’ questions, the Secretary stated that the majority of economic impact payments have been sent and that just today he approved a tranche of those payments to the U.S. territories. He heard Democrats’ concerns regarding extremely small businesses’ access to PPP money; the quick deadline for certain economic impact payment recipients with dependents to provide their updated information to the IRS; and the need for cities and states to receive federal funds and flexibility with that assistance. “These kinds of discussions and the accountability they provide are essential. I reiterated to the Secretary multiple times that we expect to have frequent conversations in the coming weeks and months as the Administration continues its implementation of new laws and our nation works to recover.” ### |
