Chairman Neal Hails House Passage of Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act:

“This legislation provides solutions to some of Americans’ most pressing challenges as the coronavirus crisis continues to grow and evolve. The Ways and Means Committee crafted key provisions in this package allowing for historic, emergency paid leave, the stabilization of our unemployment insurance system, and free coronavirus testing, even for the uninsured. Other important measures increase federal funds for Medicaid, strengthen food security initiatives, and improve protections for health workers at the frontlines of the emergency. Taking these steps will assist in limiting the spread of the virus and protecting families’ near- and long-term financial security.

“In passing this significant bill, we not only help workers and families meet their immediate needs, we also show Americans that their government can function and deliver results in an emergency. I urge the Senate to pass this critical legislation without delay so that the President can quickly sign it into law and lives can be saved.”
