Rep. Richard Neal announces $2.4M for Head Start

SPRINGFIELD — U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal announced more than $2.4 million for Head Start programs in western and central Massachusetts on Thursday.

The grants are through the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that Neal, as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, helped write.

“This investment will help our local Head Start programs continue preparing children in western and central Massachusetts for success, and help parents get back to work to grow our economy knowing their kids are safe and cared for,” the Springfield Democrat said.

Programs in the 1st Congressional District that received funding include:

  • Holyoke Chicopee Springfield Head Start Inc.: $1.2 million
  • Berkshire County Head Start Child Development Program: $379,291

Programs that serve children in both the 1st and 2nd Congressional Districts include:

  • Community Action Pioneer Valley Inc.: $524,067
  • Worcester Community Action Council Inc.: $314,680

The funding for Head Start comes in addition to $510 million Neal helped secure to assist Massachusetts reopen child care facilities safely, keep workers on payroll, and lower costs for families.
