Neal Statement on Iran's Rocket Attacks on U.S. Military Bases in Iraq

January 8, 2020
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement tonight after Iran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles into U.S. military bases in western Iraq putting our troops at risk.

“Every American should be deeply concerned about confirmed reports from the Middle East tonight that Iran has fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles into military bases  in western Iraq that house United States and coalition forces. This attack represents a serious escalation in tensions between the U.S. and Iran and has put our brave service members at risk.

I unequivocally condemn the actions of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, but urge both the Trump administration and the Iranian government to take a step back from the brink and exercise restraint to prevent  a further intensification of hostilities. We are at a dangerous crossroads. As a result, President Trump and senior administration should brief the House and Senate immediately before undertaking any future action towards Iran and seek Congressional approval going forward.”
