Press Release

Washington, DC - U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal released the following statement today on President Donald J. Trump’s proposal to cut Medicare by $845 billion over ten years.

“After giving more than $2 trillion in tax cuts to big corporations and the most well-off Americans, President Trump wants to slash Medicare funding once again in an attempt to balance his books. Seniors and those with disabilities should not be on the hook to pay for Republicans’ fiscal recklessness. The president’s budget is filled with recommendations that would hurt American families, and his half-trillion-dollar cut to Medicare is one of the most egregious. I’m committed to defending Americans’ access to health care, and that means rejecting this harmful proposal,” said Chairman Richard E. Neal.
