Neal Statment on the Passing of SDLP Deputy Leader Seamus Mallon

 - Congressman Richard E. Neal, Chairman of the Friends of Ireland Caucus in the United States Congress, released the following statement today after Social Democrat and Labor Party (SDLP) Deputy Leader Seamus Mallon died in Northern Ireland after a long illness.

“I was deeply saddened to learn that Seamus Mallon passed away today at age 83. Seamus was a good friend and a courageous leader who helped bring peace, justice and reconciliation to the island of Ireland. He was one of the architects of the Good Friday Agreement whose tireless work as a member of the SDLP helped change the course of modern Irish history. I had the pleasure of spending time with him during the peace process on both sides of the Atlantic. I am grateful for those special moments. A legend in Irish politics, Seamus will be missed for his candor, strength and integrity. On this sad occasion, my thoughts are with his family and friends. May he rest in peace,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal.
