(SPRINGFIELD, MA) Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement today in response to Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) decision to discontinue medical treatment. The 82 year-old McCain has been battling a terminal form brain cancer since July 2017.
“John McCain is a patriot who has served our nation throughout his life with honor and distinction. From his remarkable heroism in Vietnam, to a distinguished career as the maverick of the United States Senate, John McCain pursued the path of public service. The American people have admired his straight talk and bipartisan leadership for decades. He has always put country first. Since last summer, Senator McCain has battled his cancer diagnosis with great courage, grace and dignity. His decision to discontinue medical treatment today must be very hard for his family and loved ones. During this difficult time, I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal.
