Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, Congressman Richard E. Neal joined House Democrats in demanding Republicans return to work and end their government shutdown and health care crisis:
“Democrats are in D.C. to do the work the American people elected them to do—legislate. That means reopening the government, protecting health care, and lowering costs for families. Meanwhile, our Republican colleagues haven’t been seen in nearly a month. Democrats will not be party to a blatant attack on Americans that is ripping health care from 15 million and causing the highest healthcare premium hike in fifteen years. We are fighting to put a stop to the cruelty. It’s time to end the chaos, cancel the cuts, lower costs, and save health care.”
- In MA-01, Republican cuts will mean higher premiums for 29,000 residents, with more than a 185% increase for a 60-year-old couple making $85k.
- Republican cuts to Medicaid in their Big, Ugly Bill will rob 24,826 residents in MA-01 of their health coverage.
- Republican cuts to WIC and SNAP will mean 23,816 residents in MA-01 will lose access to affordable food.
- The Republican shutdown means 8,744 federal workers in MA-01 are either forced to work without pay or are furloughed.
