WASHINGTON, DC— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the delayed January 2026 jobs report:

“Beating expectations once doesn’t absolve the pain of the meager monthly average of 15,000 jobs created last year. The fine print of this report, which shows significant downward revisions of Trump’s first year in office, cast strong doubt that people can rely on this Administration to deliver for them.

“Republicans oversaw the worst year for jobs outside of a recession in more than two decades, and now the cracks are deepening. The American people have caught on to the President’s unsteady economy, and Republicans know it. As more rebuke his tariff regime, Democrats will continue putting them on the record to own the failures and the squeeze families are feeling.”
