Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled on Louisiana v. Callais:
“Today’s decision is a stain on the Supreme Court and our democracy. The right to vote is fundamental to who we are as Americans, and the Voting Rights Act has been one of the most consequential laws in our history. With this ruling, Republicans have once again succeeded in attacking voting rights, particularly those hard-fought by generations of voters of color, and reduced this beacon of democracy into a shadow of what it once was.
“Every time, Republicans feel their grip on power slipping, they turn to voter suppression and ramp up their attacks at the ballot box, but that won’t intimidate us. For years, Democrats have fought to enshrine our voting rights into law, and we certainly won’t stop now.”
