SPRINGFIELD, MA— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement mourning the passing of former Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Archer (R-TX):
“Chairman Archer’s service and reverence for our institutions won’t soon be forgotten. For 30 years, the people of Texas were fortunate to have him in their corner, expanding retirement security, delivering tax relief for families, and collaborating with his Democratic colleagues to protect Medicare. I’ll always remember how he approached every issue on its merits, recognizing that good ideas could come from anywhere, regardless of party.
“Through his Archer Center, his legacy endures, preparing the next generation for lives of public service and leadership. It will continue to stand as a testament to his strongly held belief that our institutions are at their best when dedicated people step forward to serve. My prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”
