Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) August 2025 jobs report:
“Americans cannot afford any more of Trump’s disastrous economy. Hiring is frozen, jobless claims are rising, and the unemployment rate is now higher than it has been in years. The President is squeezing every wallet as he chases an illegal tariff agenda that is hiking costs, spooking investment, and stunting domestic manufacturing.
“When will the pain be enough for my Republican colleagues to break their silence? Their constituents are buckling under the weight of the President’s mismanagement all while they have the power to end this madness. Work with us, turn the illegal tariffs off, and give Americans the relief they need from this economy. The truth remains that Trump’s economy is hurting people, and no attempt to cook the books or hide the data will change that.”
