WASHINGTON, DC— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) slammed House Republicans for sneaking a change in their rule that blocks Congress’s ability to bring forward Resolutions of Inquiry, a key oversight tool, for the remainder of this Congress:

“Republicans are finding more ways to run cover for the Trump Administration’s corruption, operating in secrecy and bad-faith procedural stunts to avoid transparency. Already blocking our repeated efforts to use this longstanding oversight tool to get answers for the people, Republicans have decided they’d rather not be put on the record at all. There’s only one reason they would sneak in this change under the cover of floor business. Republicans know the Trump Administration is endangering their constituents, and they’d rather cover it up than join with us to put a stop to it.

“Democrats won’t be deterred in our pursuit of the facts and to hold the Trump Administration accountable for threatening the people’s safety and security. No matter what games in obstruction Republicans try, we will continue pursuing the facts until the American people get overdue answers and accountability.”
