WASHINGTON, DC— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the May 2026 jobs report:
“Another month in the books for the Trump economy, and workers still can’t keep up with the failure. With gas up 50% and airfare up 20%, Trump’s inflation is eating up paychecks, has cut the savings rate in half in just a year, and forced a record number of families to cancel their summer plans. Record low consumer sentiment and widespread disapproval on the economy tells you all that’s needed about how they feel.
“Yet hearing from the Treasury Secretary yesterday, it’s clear that there’s no other strategy than to move the goal posts and tell the nearly three quarters of Americans who feel hopeless about the economy that they’re wrong. That won’t cut it. Families deserve leaders who will prioritize their wallets over Trump’s grifting, and that’s exactly what Democrats are fighting to deliver.”
