Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a War Powers Resolution to rein in President Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran:

“Two weeks after Speaker Johnson canceled a vote on a War Powers Resolution, knowing that it would pass, he and the President have been forced to face the reality that the American people do not want this war. As we approach 100 days of this unauthorized, reckless war of choice in Iran, four House Republicans joined House Democrats in fulfilling our responsibility as a coequal branch of government. After billions of dollars were spent and thirteen service members tragically lost their lives, the House reminded the President and the nation who the power to declare war rests with, and that is with Congress.

“Whether it’s the food they put on their table or the gas they put in their cars, working families have shouldered the cost of this war. It’s time for Republicans in both chambers to end their pattern of subservience and do right by the American people.”
