Neal Statement on New Trump Administration SALT Deduction Regulations
Springfield, MA,

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Today, Ways & Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) issued the following statement after the Treasury Department released new regulations focused on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction: “Today, the Trump Administration doubled down on its attack on the middle class. The discriminatory Republican tax law capped the SALT deduction that average, hardworking families in many states rely on to afford owning their homes. The Administration’s new regulations block affected states’ attempts to cope with this significant change and protect residents from double taxation. With this unfair deduction cap, President Trump and congressional Republicans raise taxes on millions of American families and potentially restrict the ability of state and local governments to invest in critical community infrastructure, schools, and services.” |
