SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Congressman Richard Neal and Baystate Health President and CEO Dr. Mark Keroack announced federal funding Tuesday morning that will allow the hospital to continue providing quality care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Baystate Health will receive $1,873,740 through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program to provide emergency protective measures during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am so appreciative of the work that Dr. Keroack and his colleagues are doing to prevent and protect our community from the coronavirus,” Congressman Neal said. “They have and continue to take herculean steps to stop the virus and while it took a significant financial toll on Baystate, they have never slowed down. This funding will ensure that they have the resources they need to continue to serve our most vulnerable.”

“Congressman Neal’s efforts have not only provided financial assistance to Baystate Health during the crisis, but he has been crucial in obtaining much-needed PPE for our healthcare workers, as well as addressing the need for testing materials and vaccinations. His help in securing additional aid for Baystate from FEMA comes at a critical time as western Massachusetts braces for a third surge of the virus,” Dr. Keroack said.

This funding was awarded under the January 21, 2021, Presidential Memorandum for the Secretary of Defense & the Secretary of Homeland Security and Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
