PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling the House back to Washington this weekend over the crisis at the Postal Service. The House is expected to vote Saturday on the ‘Delivering for America Act,’ which includes $25 billion to support the agency. Congressman Richard Neal held a news conference outside of the United States Postal Service in Pittsfield Tuesday afternoon to bring attention to the current USPS situation. Neal discussed the Delivering for America Act which prohibits the Postal Service from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1. The House of Representatives will be in session this Saturday to vote on the measure. He told 22News the funding would specifically support facilities like the Springfield bulk mail center that recently had to take two pieces of sorting equipment offline. “That’s what we would push for and the argument we would be is we would give you the money to put them back online, the money is here,” said Neal. “All you have to do it get the president to tell mitch McConnell took it. Put those back online.” The postmaster general is set to testify before a senate committee on Friday and the House oversight committee next week. President Donald Trump declared Thursday that he opposes additional funding for the U.S. Postal Service. |
