Neal Statement on House Passage of Measure to Provide Relief to Non-Profits and State, Local, and Tribal Governments

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House passed S. 4209, which would ensure that non-profits and state, local, and tribal governments are able to benefit fully from CARES Act relief during the COVID-19 crisis:

“Like nearly every other segment of society, non-profits and state, local, and tribal governments have faced tremendous challenges during the COVID-19 crisis. As they grapple with unusually high furlough and layoff rates, they’re also struggling to comply with Department of Labor instructions regarding ways to access help that’s provided in the CARES Act. This legislation – which originated as a provision in House Democrats’ Heroes Act – provides clarity to make the assistance available as Congress intended. I’m glad that the Senate followed our lead on this particular provision, but much more must be done to help workers, families, and businesses survive the ongoing crisis. The Senate should pass the entire Heroes Act to provide the more comprehensive assistance our nation needs.”

S. 4209 is based on Section 50005 of the Heroes Act.
