SPRINGFIELD, MA – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka: “I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Richard Trumka, a fierce advocate for the rights and wellbeing of American workers. His advocacy and dedication helped ensure transformative pro-worker policies became law. I deeply valued his partnership as we passed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, a revolutionary trade deal for U.S. workers. And most recently, his support helped ensure the inclusion of a solution to the multiemployer pension crisis in the American Rescue Plan, preserving more than a million retirees’ and workers’ hard-earned savings. He was an invaluable champion for those who make up the backbone of our economy and foundations of our communities. His legacy will continue to support union organizing and build power for working people in the United States and abroad. “Richard’s passing is a terrible loss for workers everywhere, and a tragedy for his family and friends. I wish comfort and peace for his loved ones during this difficult time.” ## |
