Neal Statement on July 2021 Jobs Report
Springfield, MA,
August 6, 2021
SPRINGFIELD, MA—Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) July 2021 jobs report: “The July jobs report has exceeded expectations by adding nearly a million jobs across sectors while wages rose and unemployment dropped—this is fantastic news, and a testament to President Biden’s strong leadership. From emergency unemployment insurance to stimulus checks and the expanded Child Tax Credit, Ways and Means Committee policies during this crisis have kept workers afloat and maintained strong demand for goods and services, paving the way for today’s excellent numbers. “We’ve been in this pandemic long enough to know that we cannot ignore the lessons of the past, and we must act seriously and aggressively as the Delta variant surges. Americans need to get vaccinated and mask up where appropriate to prevent the public health crisis from costing more lives and undoing the economic progress we’ve made so far. Containing the virus is essential for our economy to truly flourish. “President Biden and congressional Democrats have the blueprints to ensure the next phase of our recovery is inclusive, equitable, and robust. The Ways and Means Committee is ready to keep building on the groundwork we’ve laid to create good jobs in an economy that works for workers and their families.” ### |
