Chairman Neal Statement on House Passage of the Updated Heroes Act

House Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after House passage of the updated Heroes Act:

“Today, House Democrats once again led the way in helping our country recover from the devastating COVID-19 pandemic and recession. This updated legislation uses proven tools to give Americans both the immediate relief they need and assistance to weather what’s still to come. The Ways and Means Committee contributed critical provisions in this bill, including the reinstatement and extension of emergency unemployment compensation, a second round of direct payments, and key tax credits that support workers, families, and small businesses. But as I’ve said all along, there are no shortcuts to defeating this virus, and we cannot expect a full recovery of our economy until people are healthy and safe. That’s why we also included measures to tackle the public health emergency and help Americans access and afford the care they require.

“I urge my colleagues in the Senate to do right by their constituents, stop delaying, and take up this legislation to give the American people the relief they desperately need.”
