Neal Statement on House Passage of Emergency Interim Funding Package
Washington, DC,
April 24, 2020
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R.266, The Paycheck Protection and Health Care Enhancement Act: “Today, we passed urgent legislation that will provide much-needed assistance to the smallest of small businesses and frontline health care workers. Democrats fought to transform this bill from a haphazard fix for only some businesses to a bill grounded in addressing the deadly public health crisis that is ravaging our communities. I supported this bill, even though it does not come close to fully addressing the staggering needs of the American people. “That said, the Ways and Means Committee is already looking ahead to the next response package that will give more comprehensive relief to the least, the last, and the lost. We know that restarting our economy can only happen when Americans are healthy, and through bold action, we will help hospitals and health care workers on the frontlines weather this unprecedented crisis. By revisiting stimulus payments and unemployment compensation, we can shore up the economic health of our most vulnerable and help them get back on their feet. Our nation is counting on us, and together, we will rise to this challenge.” ### |
