Grow With Google Tour comes to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The city of Springfield hosted Google on Monday. 

Hundreds of people hoping to improve their workforce skills gathered at the MassMutual Center downtown, for the free day long event. 

Google's event page  website, described Springfield as a hub for new job growth with a rich small business community, making it a great fit for the event. 

The company's visit to Springfield was part of the "Grow with Google" tour, a larger initiative to help create economic growth across the country.

Our 22News digital team were among those attending workshops.

The event also featured one-on-one coaching sessions and interactive demo stations.

"What I wanted to do by coming out was not only support Google and thank them for what they've done for us, but also learn some new ways we might be able to bring some more education and programming to our youth.," said Linda Horn of 4H Massachusetts.

On Google's event page website, the city of Springfield is described as "a hub for new job growth and having a rich small business community, making it a great fit for 'Grow with Google."

Congressman Neal has been an advocate for the revitalization and economic growth of Springfield, he helped welcome Google to the city with Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, and the Economic Development Council of Western Mass.

"This is an exciting time for Springfield and the Pioneer Valley," said Neal. "I think the opportunities  that will come of this are extraordinary."

Future Works was also awarded $100-thousand sponsorship from Google to help deepen their resources and prepare active job seekers in their career center.
