Chairman Neal Statement on Supreme Court ACA Contraception Case Ruling
Washington, DC,
July 8, 2020
Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling this morning which will allow employers to deny female employees access to free birth control as required under the Affordable Care Act (ACA): “Today’s decision is a blow for women’s health. The ruling is particularly harmful for low-wage workers, people of color, and LGBTQ people who face the highest barriers to accessing care, including more costly and effective forms of contraception. The Affordable Care Act protects Americans’ ability to receive essential care without discrimination, and women’s health care is certainly essential. “This ruling comes as the Trump Administration and Republicans fight in the courts to dismantle our entire health care system and eliminate protections for 130 million people with pre-existing conditions. I will continue to work with my fellow Democrats to protect all Americans’ access to the quality affordable health care they need.” ### |
