Chairman Neal Statement After Meeting With President Biden on Urgent Need for COVID-19 Relief
Washington, DC,
February 5, 2021
Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) made the following statement after meeting with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and House Democratic leaders to discuss the urgency of delivering the next round of COVID-19 relief: “Our charge to deliver big, bold relief to the American people has been clear from the beginning, and in today’s meeting at the White House, President Biden emphasized the need for speed. The COVID-19 crisis is far from over and while record numbers of deaths and joblessness continue to plague our nation, Americans need to know that help is on the way. President Biden knows better than anyone that working in a bipartisan manner is always the goal, but he also feels the struggle facing so many right now and how quickly the cost of inaction is growing. “The Ways and Means Committee stands ready to make the American Rescue Plan a reality and is proud to be spearheading policies that have already been proven successful in tackling both the public health and economic crises. From shoring up pension plans that have been jeopardized due to the pandemic to expanding tax credits to combat child poverty to sending more direct assistance to those who need it most, we are hard at work on the relief Americans deserve. “Together, we will make historic investments to eradicate the virus and protect desperate workers and their families.” ### |
