Congressman Neal and Mayor Humason Celebrate American Rescue Plan Funding to Westfield

Westfield, MA - Congressman Richard E. Neal and Westfield Mayor Donald F. Humason, Jr. gathered for a press conference Thursday to highlight federal funding to the city from the American Rescue Plan.

The City of Westfield is set to receive $9,185,332 and the Westfield Public Schools will receive $11,470,000.

In addition, Westfield State University was the recipient of $12.8 million in emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students through this same bill.

“President Biden’s American Rescue Plan has already delivered meaningful relief to the American family including here in western and central Massachusetts,” said Congressman Neal. “I am proud of the aggressive course of action the Ways and Means Committee took to contribute long-lasting measures to support families and workers including putting money directly into Americans’ pockets, and helping them better afford childcare and health coverage. The funding that Westfield received will ensure that the city has the financial footing to bounce back from this pandemic and make improvements that will affect generations to come.”

Massachusetts will receive $5.3 billion in state fiscal relief and $2.6 billion in local fiscal relief from the American Rescue Plan. Cities and towns in the First Congressional District will receive $241 million of that and school districts will receive over $355 million.

More information about these funds and guidelines on how they can be used can be found on the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s website.
