SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield held its community Menorah lighting in court square Monday afternoon. Congressman Richard Neal and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno joined Rabbi Chaim Kosofsky to light the flames on the giant menorah. The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah officially began Sunday night at sunset. This year's menorah lighting was dedicated to the victims of the tree of life synagogue, who were killed in a mass shooting in Pittsburgh in November. "What we have today, again-over 2,000 years later, the message is stronger than ever, we have the message of light," Kosofsky said. Monday was the second night of the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah. |
