Neal Floor Statement on the Suspending Normal Trade Relations with Russia and Belarus Act

(As prepared for delivery) M/ Speaker, yesterday morning, the Congress heard directly from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. He showed us the absolute horrors that Russia is inflicting on the Ukrainian people, and he pleaded for us to do more. With this bill, today, we answer his call. Ranking Member Brady and I have been united in our desire to end permanent normal trade relations with Russia. With the House passage of H.R. 7108 today we will take that impactful step and place even greater economic pressure on Putin and his regime. We must do everything in our power to hold Russia accountable for the atrocities it is committing in Ukraine. Our partners and allies are joining us in this effort, taking similar steps to further isolate Putin from the rest of the world. I urge every single one of my colleagues to support the Ukrainian people, punish Russia for its ruthless aggression, and vote to advance this measure. I reserve the balance of my time. ### |
