Neal Statement on April 2022 Jobs Report
Springfield, MA,
May 6, 2022
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) April 2022 jobs report: “This month’s jobs report is the result of a tightening labor market that has made incredible gains in a short period of time. A historically low unemployment rate and an impressive rate of job recovery were never guarantees. These key indicators of our economy’s resilience were directly spurred by the American Rescue Plan, and the economic strategy of President Biden and congressional Democrats. Americans are back at work, and even better, wages are on the rise. “With now 12 consecutive months of adding back over 400,000 jobs, nearly 95 percent of the jobs that were lost during the Trump Administration are back. As the labor market continues to tighten, retaining workers through fair wages and basic supports like child care and paid family and medical leave will be critical components to building the economy our nation’s workers deserve. This has been the fastest, most equitable recovery in recent history, and yet, women are still being pushed to their limits. The American Rescue Plan’s recognition of the challenges facing parents and caregivers was both historic and long overdue, but so long as Republicans continue to block further action, it will be difficult to unlock the full potential of American workers. “When we return to Washington next week, the conference committee on economic competitiveness legislation will begin our work on supporting American workers, shoring up our supply chains, and ultimately, strengthening our economy. There is much to celebrate, but Ways and Means Democrats won’t stop until we’ve built a better America.” President Biden and congressional Democrats are leading the fastest and most equitable recovery in recent history, read more about this historic job creation HERE. ### |
