Neal Statement on July 2022 Jobs Report
Springfield, MA,
August 5, 2022
Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) July 2022 jobs report: “The jobs recovery from COVID is now complete. With another incredible month of broad-based job gains, all of the jobs lost under President Trump are back. The unemployment rate has fallen to its 50-year low and wages are rising. The American Rescue Plan put the United States in a class of our own, with our strong, determined workers leading the global recovery and beating expectations month after month. This is what it looks like when President Biden and congressional Democrats rebuild the economy from the bottom up and the middle out. “Some are puzzled by the stubborn labor participation rate, but the Ways and Means Committee has heard loud and clear that the lack of basic workplace supports are holding women and people of color back. Congress must make affordable child care and universal paid leave a reality, and we will not rest until we overcome Republican opposition to make that happen. This economic momentum will keep growing when millions are finally able to reenter the workforce, and when they have the support necessary to stay at work. “Americans are working, the Inflation Reduction Act is on a glide path through the Senate, and the House will quickly follow in getting this cost-cutting legislation to President Biden’s desk.” ### |
