Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) August 2022 jobs report:
“Our economy has had 20 straight months of significant job growth, and this last month is yet another sign that Democrats are driving a steady, strong recovery. President Biden and congressional Democrats’ investments in workers, families, and businesses made way for an economy that broadly shares success. More people are looking for work, and many of them are securing higher paychecks and finding opportunities that better fit their needs. This is what it means to rebuild an economy from the bottom up and middle out.
“Gas prices are at the lowest levels all summer, inflation is slowing, and the labor market continues to beat expectations. The Inflation Reduction Act is already powering historic investments in new good-paying jobs around the country, and soon, Americans will feel the relief of lower energy and health care costs.
“A recovery like this doesn’t just happen. It’s the product of strong, intentional leadership, and that’s what we have in President Biden. I share his unwillingness to settle for our old economy, and the Ways and Means Committee has heard directly from women about what they need to rejoin the workforce. Basic workplace supports such as affordable child care and universal paid leave will supercharge our economic momentum, and we won’t stop until we deliver.”
