Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) January 2023 jobs report:

“When President Biden took office, Congressional Democrats worked with his administration to rebuild our economy from the bottom up and the middle out, prioritizing the security of a paycheck, and focusing on what matters to workers and their families. Today’s jobs report handily beat expectations and demonstrates that American workers don’t need to be sacrificed to bring prices down.

“This is not an economy in recession. The unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in decades, wages are up, and inflation is cooling. Right now, the largest threat to this success is Republican extremism. It’s time they stop wishing, waiting, hoping for a recession, and focus on stability.”
