Tonight, House Ways and Means Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) applauded President Biden’s State of the Union address:

“Tonight, President Biden spoke directly to the nation, and delivered a message of progress and potential. His presidency has been marked by a commitment to rebuilding the economy from the bottom up and the middle out, and I’m proud of all the Ways and Means Committee has contributed to making this possible.

“President Biden and Democrats’ investments have made way for new records for job creation, shrinking unemployment, expanding access to health care, and tackling the climate crisis. The Ways and Means Democrats stand ready to build on these historic gains, and to do so responsibly. Now is the time to extend the expanded Child Tax Credit and deliver paid leave for all, simply by asking the wealthiest to pay their fair share. After a record-breaking open enrollment season, making the enhanced ACA premium tax credits permanent, filling the coverage gap, and lowering out-of-pocket costs for drugs and care for all will give families more peace of mind and lead to a healthier America.
