Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement on the passing of Kathleen Murphy.

“I am deeply saddened at the news that Kathleen Murphy passed away today. Those that knew Kathleen marveled at her civic mindedness, an attribute that stemmed directly from her experience as a first-generation Irish immigrant. She was my first appointment as Mayor to serve on the Civic Center Commission, and her involvement in the John Boyle O’Reilly Club’s scholarship fund helped educate hundreds of men and women throughout the Greater Springfield community. Kathleen brought a great sense of hard work and dedication to everything she did, and her remarkable commitment to service was an inspiration to all.

“Above all else, Kathleen was a dedicated wife to her husband, Tom, and mother to their children. I wish comfort and peace for her loved ones during this difficult time.”
