WESTFIELD – Connor Koziol, a Westfield resident and Pope Francis Preparatory School Class of 2018 graduate, is heading to West Point.

Koziol is the son of Kristin and Jeff Koziol.

Koziol received a congressional appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point from Congressman Richard E. Neal.

Koziol’s appointment was celebrated at Pope Francis last month, with family, friends and Neal celebrating with him.

Koziol, a first-year engineering student at Clarkson University in New York, submitted his impressive resume to West Point, which includes academic and extra-curricular achievements.

Koziol is an Army ROTC cadet in the Golden Knight Battalion out of Springfield and a past member of the Civil Air Patrol. He taught CCD at St. Mary’s in Westfield and has coached youth hockey and baseball in the city.

At Pope Francis, Koziol served as the baseball team captain, golf team captain and was student body chairman. He attended the Naval Academy Summer Seminar in 2017 and was selected for the 1st Team All Western Mass Baseball team.

At Clarkson, Koziol plays intramural hockey.

Koziol was a member of the Pope Francis National Honor Society, earned a cumulative GPA greater than 4.0 and was the recipient of many academic achievement awards at Pope Francis, including the Army ROTC Scholarship, the RPI Book Award for Excellence in Math and Science, the Excellence in IB History award, the Mass Mutual Academic Achiever award, and school awards for Honors Spanish and Honors World History.
