Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement marking the 13th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law: “Thirteen years ago, the Affordable Care Act became a pillar of our nation’s economic and health security, finally recognizing that your health is your wealth. Since then, the ACA has provided needed, affordable health care access for Americans from all walks of life, and the results continue to break records. More Americans are insured today than ever before, and the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions live without fear of prejudice and rely on enhanced consumer protections. “Under President Biden’s leadership, Ways and Means Democrats bolstered the ACA and put money back in Americans’ pockets through the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act—both passing without a single Republican vote. Seniors are beginning to see the fruits of these efforts with dramatically lower costs for insulin and adult vaccines. Soon, many more seniors will save money on prescription drugs with an out-of-pocket cap and negotiated prices. “While Democrats continue to shore up Americans’ economic and health security, Republicans want to send our health care system backward, tearing millions of Americans away from their protections and coverage without a plan of their own. Their single-minded focus on repealing the Affordable Care Act is reckless and unconscionable: high-quality, affordable health care is a right, and the American people can count on Ways and Means Democrats to deliver—just as we have done successfully since 2010.” ### |
