Neal Blasts Reckless Court Ruling Undermining the Affordable Care Act

Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after a U.S. District Court Judge struck down a key provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that ensures access to no-cost preventative health care for millions of Americans: “The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land, and preventative care has kept over 150 million Americans healthier, saved money, and ultimately, powers our nation’s public and economic health. Over the last 13 years, Americans have come to rely on the ACA’s life- and cost-saving care while Republicans attempt to make people sicker and poorer every chance they get. “Yet again, a judicial activist, despite a failed track record, is redefining health care law and taking our country backward. While courts across the country have reaffirmed the ACA time and time again, this decision is based not on legal merit but rather steeped in partisan warfare on Americans’ access to care. For women, this means losing coverage of mammograms, postpartum mental health services, including breastfeeding support, and general preventative care needs. “It’s more of the same Republican playbook: a war on women, a war on health care, and a war on Americans’ health and financial wellbeing. Democrats won’t let this stand.” ### |
