Neal Statement on March 2023 Jobs Report
Springfield, MA,
April 7, 2023
Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) March 2023 jobs report: “Another month of sustainable job growth means more Americans living with the security of a paycheck and further evidence that Democrats are finishing the job. Workers are using their power to increase their wages while the unemployment rate remains at historic lows. With the labor force participation rate reaching a pre-pandemic high, now is not the time to spook workers with Republican threats to critical programs. Insults, like work requirement proposals, only further Republican narratives and don’t promote economic growth or workforce participation. Unlocking our workers’ fullest potential is possible with universal paid leave and affordable child care. “Republican extremism is the largest threat to these economic gains. While Democrats build towards a more prosperous future for all, Republicans are making backroom deals that they still aren’t sharing with the American people. We know what to expect though: rewarding billionaires while ripping millions from their health care and holding the economy hostage to force drastic cuts to Social Security and Medicare. It’s an attack on American workers and families, and we won’t stand for it.” ### |
