Neal Statement on the July 2023 Jobs Report
Springfield, MA,
August 4, 2023
Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) July 2023 jobs report: “Today’s jobs report signals our economy is stabilizing, yet wages continue to rise and unemployment fell—all fantastic news for our nation’s workers. As we look ahead to the one-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, record job growth was never guaranteed and it is Democrats’ investments in workers, families, and our public infrastructure that made it possible. This landmark law, alongside the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, and the CHIPS and Science Act, powered historic investments in clean energy, creating good-paying jobs, and lowering costs. With 13.4 million jobs created since President Biden took office, Bidenomics is growing the middle class and Democrats are ready to finish the job. “While Democrats focus on the work of the American people, the Republican Majority is only offering chaos, conspiracies, and cuts. If they’re not attempting to derail our economic success, Republicans are using their control of the House to double down on their failed trickle-down economics playbook. Ways and Means Democrats will continue to grow our economy with the only playbook that works: putting workers and families first.” |
