Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after House Republicans formalized their dereliction of duty and announced a baseless impeachment inquiry:

“It’s an inquiry without any foundation in reality, and solely based on Republican political pipedreams. Yet again, this Republican majority is showing the American people that they don’t have their backs, they have no interest in governing, and they will do anything at the command of their most extreme members. Recycling debunked conspiracy theories will not elevate their lies to facts, no matter how hard they try. If only Republicans could approach funding the government or extending the Child Tax Credit with the same vigor.
