Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)  September 2023 jobs report:

“Today marks another sharp study in contrasts: while Democrats’ economic agenda continues to deliver record job creation under President Biden, Republicans’ inability to govern has immobilized their Conference and halted the work of the House. Democrats are laser-focused on the work of the American people, and our historic legislative success during the last Congress continues to drive our economic recovery and smash expectations, with a rip-roaring 336,000 jobs created last month, a continuation of the steady rise in wages, and sustained growth in our clean energy and manufacturing sectors.

“Republicans have only one agenda for the most unproductive Congress in recent decades: chaos, conspiracies, and cuts. After Democrats prevented a needless government shutdown and beat back unpopular GOP attacks on Social Security and Medicare, Republicans are still doubling down on vilifying workers and refusing to hear what families need. Ways and Means Democrats won’t lose sight of the work we were sent to Congress to deliver: more jobs, lower costs, and the tools Americans need to build better lives.”
