Neal Statement on November 2023 Jobs Report
Springfield, MA,
December 8, 2023
Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) November 2023 jobs report: “The path to a soft landing is clear because we cleared it. Democrats focused on rebuilding from the bottom-up and middle-out, leaving failed trickle-down economics behind, and we are seeing the middle class grow as the American economy grows. Ways and Means Democrats will never stop fighting to unlock the full potential of our economy by giving America’s workers the tools they need to succeed like paid leave, child care, and retirement savings options. We’ve seen how collective bargaining changes lives throughout this year as workers took to the picket lines across the country, securing wage wins and stronger benefits that continue to strengthen our strong jobs market and increase our economic productivity. When workers are empowered, we all win. “There is only one party focused on doing the work of the American people. While Democrats give working families much-needed breathing room and support our record economic growth, Republicans are still playing political games while barreling us towards another government shutdown. Their inability to govern is threatening to wreak havoc on our economy, raise costs for America’s seniors and working families, and make our communities less safe. In the least productive Congress since the Great Depression, House Republicans took us to the brink of default, attempted to shut down the government twice, and even ousted their own Speaker for the first time in history. “It’s long past time for Republicans to let go of their chaos, conspiracies, and cuts, and join us in the work of the people.” ### |
