Neal Statement on the State of the Union

Tonight, House Ways and Means Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) applauded President Biden's State of the Union address: “Tonight, President Biden was clear and unequivocal: the American people are better off today than when he took office. He spoke about the greatest comeback story that’s only beginning to unfold, and his vision for continuing to invest in all of America through every American. The President’s record speaks for itself, and his success has defied even the greatest of expectations. America’s economy is the strongest in the world, with wages on the rise and a record 14.8 million jobs created since he first took office. “The President’s historic agenda continues to break records: the Inflation Reduction Act has ushered in hundreds of thousands of good-paying, new jobs in manufacturing and the green energy economy, more Americans have health care coverage than ever before, over $500 million has been collected from wealthy tax evaders, and millions of Medicare recipients are saving money on prescription drug costs. “Fifteen months into the most unproductive Congress in decades, Republicans are only focused on dismantling our progress and doubling down on their unpopular, extreme policies. Democrats’ vision for America is different: one of progress and potential. We believe in what the people can accomplish when no one is left behind. Ways and Means Democrats will give families more breathing room by expanding the Child Tax Credit, lowering health care costs by permanently extending enhanced premium tax credits, and keeping our economy growing from the middle-out and bottom-up by overcoming corporate greed and giving every worker a fair shot. “The American people can trust Democrats to defend their freedoms, always put our values first—both at home and abroad—and build the future they deserve.” |
