Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) March 2024 jobs report:

“More good news for America’s workers and families with another jobs report that defied expectations. Over 15 million jobs have been created since President Biden took office, consumer confidence is hitting multi-year highs, and wages are continuing to rise. This historic progress is no accident – our commitment to building an economy from the bottom-up and the middle-out has propelled us to new heights, accelerating our clean energy and manufacturing sectors while bringing down costs for workers and their families. Ways and Means Democrats know that growing the economy comes from growing the middle class, and we’re ready to unlock even more opportunity for workers by expanding the Child Tax Credit and investing in paid leave and child care.

“While Democrats are looking to a future of progress and potential, Republicans only want to take us backwards. Their do-nothing Majority is sticking to their failed trickle-down economics playbook, threatening to slash workers’ hard-earned Social Security and Medicare benefits, all to pad the pockets of the wealthy and well-connected. Americans saw right through their 2017 Tax Scam, and they won’t be fooled as Republicans tee up another round of deficit-busting tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations.
