Neal Statement on Tax Day
Washington, D.C.,
April 15, 2024
Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement today marking the end of the 2024 tax filing season: “Another smooth and successful filing season comes to a close, thanks to Democrats’ commitment to full and fair tax administration. After more than a decade of Republican underfunding, we breathed new life into the IRS with the Inflation Reduction Act: 1 million more calls were answered, over 170,000 more filers were helped in-person, new digital tools were made available, and wealthy tax cheats were held to account. The Direct File pilot opened up a new, secure and free way to file for taxpayers, and its success will only continue to ease their experience. “House Republicans want to erase all our progress, not only by blocking our accomplishments and weakening the IRS, but also by ramming through another round of deficit-busting tax cuts, all in service of protecting billionaires and big corporations. Ways and Means Democrats share the Biden Administration and Commissioner Werfel’s steadfast commitment to one system for all—ensuring our tax code puts workers and families first, and delivering the service taxpayers deserve.” ### |
