Today, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement reaffirming Federal Reserve independence:

“President Biden and Congressional Democrats have overseen an unprecedented economic recovery that was never guaranteed: 15 million jobs have been created since January 2021, unemployment has been below 4% for the longest stretch since the 1960s, and wages continue to rise. Our economy is the envy of the world, and we must continue to safeguard the solid gains we’ve made for working families, which is only possible with an independent Federal Reserve.

“Kneecapping the Federal Reserve’s independence is unthinkable. The Republican nominee’s calls for a weaker dollar, threats to the rule of law, and plans for politicizing the Federal Reserve show how the same administration that encouraged horse tranquilizers as the antidote to COVID-19 simply can’t be trusted with our economic progress.”
